Red Poppy Music was founded in 1993 as the publishing company for the music of Michael Gordon, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe, three American composers of some of the most adventurous, breathtaking, passionate, and powerful music of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Gordon, Lang and Wolfe are also the three founders of Bang on a Can, a multi-faceted performing arts organization with a broad range of year-round international activities.
“When we started Bang on a Can, we never imagined that our 12-hour marathon festival of mostly unknown music would morph into a giant international organization dedicated to the support of experimental music, wherever we would find it,”
This mailer was Red Poppy’s first solicitation for film score commissions and licensing. In 2016, Lang’s simple song #3, written as part of his score for Paolo Sorrentino’s acclaimed film Youth, received nominations for the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
