One of the largest exhibitions at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1995 was a retrospective of the works of Constantin Brancusi (1876 – 1957). This wordmark was designed for retail items: apparel, bags, umbrellas, etc.
Brancusi’s work was elegant and crude, graceful and brutal — often in the same piece. One source of that tension often came from the contrast of rough wooden base holding up a sleek metallic form, often with a vertical thrust. Our mark found inspiration in both elements, resulting in a strong, vertical arrangement.
